About Ezhilagam

Ezhilagam is a charitable trust started in the year 2019 by Dr. Magesh Rajagopal with a view to provide the best comprehensive, holistic care to the underprivileged in India

Dr. Magesh has worked in the United Kingdom and holds the prestigious Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, London. Having gained experience in all the subspecialties of psychiatry in the United Kingdom, he decided to come back to India and started Aram Psychiatry Hospital in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, India. Soon after realising that not all the people of India have the privilege of being able to afford private healthcare, he decided to start Ezhilagam Trust to provide the same high standard of care to the disadvantaged population with the support of like-minded people and institutions. Through Ezhilagam Trust, Dr. Magesh Rajagopal, the Managing Trustee, and his multidisciplinary team have worked relentlessly in spreading awareness about the negative impacts of mental illnesses and drug and alcohol addiction to varied sections of society in and around Tiruchirappalli district, Tamil Nadu, India.

On seeing the positive impact of the Trust’s tireless work, we took on many more community projects, such as monthly free psychiatry camps, providing medications free of cost to eligible patients, and providing community-based rehabilitation programmes for those who have recovered from acute mental illnesses. Through partnerships with corporates, Ezhilagam has started many social enterprises and created many semi-skilled jobs for the purpose of vocational training to improve the standard of living of those who have recovered from debilitating long-term mental illnesses. Ezhilagam is committed to contributing to the field of psychiatry through engaging in research, training healthcare professionals, and publishing a quarterly peer-reviewed journal called the Tamil Psychiatry Journal.
